AboutFelo
Rafael “Felo” Brenes is one of Costa Rica’s most respected tennis figures, known for both his accomplishments on the court and his dedication to developing new generations of players.
Felo began his journey in tennis in 1977 as a ball boy at a local club. With discipline and a deep love for the sport, he rose through the ranks and went on to dominate Costa Rica’s national circuit, becoming an eight-time National Champion between 1988 and 1996. In 1999, he reached World No. 13 in the 35+ division according to Tennis Week magazine, and he proudly represented Costa Rica for many years in the Davis Cup.
Even after his peak competitive years, Felo continued to make his mark. In 2003, he won both the singles and doubles titles at the III Abierto de Tenis, proving that his competitive edge remained as sharp as ever.
Today, Felo brings his experience, passion, and teaching philosophy to the court as a coach and mentor. His approach blends strong fundamentals with sportsmanship, confidence-building, and a genuine commitment to helping each player reach their potential.
At Felo Brenes Academia de Tenis, his legacy continues — inspiring a new generation to play with skill, heart, and joy.
